Job Description

The Mahopac Central School District seeks to fill the following anticipated probationary position for the 2026-2027 school year:

English Teacher (6^th Grade) – Mahopac Middle School

Valid Teaching Certification (Elementary Education required; Secondary English certification preferred)
Experience teaching 6th grade English/Language Arts
Strong background in literacy instruction for students at all performance levels
Deep understanding of the Science of Reading framework and evidence-based literacy practices
Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction to support diverse learners
Experience working in co-taught and integrated classroom settings
Proven collaboration with special education and support staff to meet student needs
Experience designing and implementing standards-aligned curriculum
Demonstrated skill in assessment development and data-driven instructional planning
Ability to analyze student performance data to inform instruction and intervention
Experience supporting struggling readers and writers as well as extending advanced learners
Strong classroom management skills that foster a structured, inclusive environment
Ability to collaborate effectively within grade-level and cross-curricular teams
Excellent communication skills with students, families, and colleagues
Commitment to building a positive, student-centered learning environment
