The Mahopac Central School District seeks to fill the following anticipated probationary position for the 2025/2026 School Year: 

Special Education Teacher - ICT – Lakeview Elementary School

Qualifications:

  • Valid NYS certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6) required.
  • Experience implementing reading intervention and monitoring student progress.
  • Experience in Specially Designed Instruction and co-teaching preferred.
  • Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention techniques
  • Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively and actively communicate with administrators, teachers, support staff, and parents;
  • Demonstrates superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience administering standardized assessments 

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Collaborate with General Education Teachers Co-plan and co-deliver instruction in inclusive classroom settings. Align teaching strategies with general curriculum standards and individual student needs.
  • Develop and Implement IEPs Write and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations. Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals.
  • Differentiate Instruction Provide targeted instruction based on students’ learning styles and needs. Adapt materials and strategies to ensure access for all learners.
  • Use Data to Drive Instruction Collect and analyze student performance data. Modify instruction based on formative assessments and behavioral data.
  • Support Behavioral and Social-Emotional Development Implement behavior intervention plans and positive behavioral supports. Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Communicate with Families and Staff Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress. Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and team meetings.
  • Ensure Compliance and Documentation Maintain accurate records, including IEP paperwork, service logs, and progress reports. Follow school, district, and state guidelines for special education services.
  • Engage in Professional Development Attend training sessions and stay current on best practices in special education and inclusive teaching.

Special Education Teacher - ICT – Austin Road Elementary School

  • Valid NYS certification in Students with Disabilities (Birth-Grade 2 and Grades 1-6) required. 
  • Experience implementing reading intervention and monitoring student progress.
  • Experience in Specially Designed Instruction and co-teaching preferred.

Special Education Teacher 12:1:2 (Grades 2-3) - Lakeview

The Mahopac Central School District seeks to fill the following anticipated probationary position for the 2025/2026 School Year: 

Special Education Teacher 12:1:2 (Grades 2-3) – Lakeview Elementary School

Qualifications:

  • Holds a NY State teaching certificate in special education (Childhood 1-6)
  • Has some experience working in a school setting providing data driven instruction for children with moderate to severe deficits including intellectual disability, language disabilities, and/or autism
  • Demonstrates knowledge of; explicit special education instruction across all academic domains including language, adaptive skills, self management skills and behavior.
  • Experience administering standardized assessments 
  • Demonstrates the ability to use Evidenced based instructional strategies and/or curriculum differentiated to meet the unique students in the class
  • Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention techniques
  • Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively and actively communicate with administrators, teachers, support staff, and parents;
  • Demonstrates superior written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that a variety of explicit instruction methods are used with all students 
  • Attending CSE meetings and other relevant meetings with parents;
  • Collaborate and communicate regularly and effectively with staff, administration and parents on behalf of the student’s success
  • Knowledge of management strategies for students with special needs including, but not limited to, those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, other health impairments and emotional disabilities.
  • Assisting with development, implementation, and review of Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for all assigned students;
  • Managing and organizing educational and teaching materials within the classroom environment;
  • Managing and working with teaching assistants and aides to meet the academic needs of students.
  • Effective communication with students and families.

The Mahopac Central School District seeks to fill the following anticipated probationary position for the 2025/2026 School Year: 

Special Education Teacher 8:1:2 – Lakeview Elementary School

Qualifications

  • Holds a NY State teaching certificate in special education K-2 and Childhood 1-6; Registered Behavior Technician or Board Certified Behavior Analysis certification preferred, but not required.
  • Has a minimum of three-year’s experience working in a school setting providing data driven instruction, including but not limited to Discrete Trial Teaching for children with moderate to severe deficits including intellectual disability, language disabilities, and/or autism
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of explicit special education instruction across all academic domains including language, adaptive skills, self management skills and behavior.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with students who utilize an AAC device to promote universal design principles using an experiential approach to learning.
  • Experience administering alternative assessments and progress monitoring student learning aligned to New York State alternate assessment standards.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with students to facilitate increased independence by promoting the generalization of skills with decreased adult prompting.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively and actively communicate with administrators, teachers, support staff, and parents.
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan, schedule, and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously; including the tasks to be implemented by teaching assistants assigned to the class.
  • Demonstrates the ability to design and develop IEPs, safety plans, and update behavior intervention plans in consultation with school clinician.
  • Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
  •  Knowledge of the prompting hierarchy.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that a variety of explicit instruction methods with all students (e.g. discrete-trial teaching).
  • Ensuring that student motivational and reinforcement systems are managed.
  • Attending CSE meetings and other relevant meetings with parents.
  • Collecting, summarizing, and evaluating data on skill acquisition programs and behavior intervention plans, including written reports and visual graphic displays of data.
  • Assisting with development, implementation, and review of Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for all assigned students.
  • Managing and organizing educational and teaching materials within the classroom environment.
  •  Managing and working with teaching assistants and aides to meet the academic and daily living skills of students.
