| Special Education Teacher - Lakeview (2026-2027) | | The Mahopac Central School District seeks to fill the following anticipated position for the 2026-2027 school year: Special Education Teacher (8:1:2) - Lakeview Elementary School Qualifications - Holds a NY State teaching certificate in special education K-2 and Childhood 1-6; Registered Behavior Technician or Board Certified Behavior Analysis certification preferred, but not required.
- Has a minimum of three-year’s experience working in a school setting providing data driven instruction, including but not limited to Discrete Trial Teaching for children with moderate to severe deficits including intellectual disability, language disabilities, and/or autism
- Demonstrates extensive knowledge of explicit special education instruction across all academic domains including language, adaptive skills, self management skills and behavior
- Demonstrates the ability to work with students who utilize an AAC device to promote universal design principles using an experiential approach to learning
- Experience administering alternative assessments and progress monitoring student learning aligned to New York State alternate assessment standards
- Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with students to facilitate increased independence by promoting the generalization of skills with decreased adult prompting
- Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively and actively communicate with administrators, teachers, support staff, and parents
- Demonstrates the ability to plan, schedule, and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously; including the tasks to be implemented by teaching assistants assigned to the class
- Demonstrates the ability to design and develop IEPs, safety plans, and update behavior intervention plans in consultation with school clinician
- Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention techniques
- Knowledge of the prompting hierarchy.
Responsibilities include: - Ensuring that a variety of explicit instruction methods with all students (e.g. discrete-trial teaching)
- Ensuring that student motivational and reinforcement systems are managed
- Attending CSE meetings and other relevant meetings with parents
- Collecting, summarizing, and evaluating data on skill acquisition programs and behavior intervention plans, including written reports and visual graphic displays of data
- Assisting with development, implementation, and review of Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for all assigned students
- Managing and organizing educational and teaching materials within the classroom environment
- Managing and working with teaching assistants and aides to meet the academic and daily living skills of students.
