The Mahopac Central School District seeks to fill the following anticipated probationary position for the 2026-2027 school year: 

Special Education Teacher (Special Class) – Elementary

Qualifications

• Holds a NY State teaching certificate in special education K-2 or Childhood 1-6; Registered Behavior Technician or Board Certified Behavior Analysis certification preferred, but not required.
• Has a minimum of three (3) years experience working in a school setting providing data driven instruction, including but not limited to Discrete Trial Teaching for children with moderate to severe deficits including intellectual disability, language disabilities, and/or autism.
• Demonstrates extensive knowledge of explicit special education instruction across all academic domains including language, adaptive skills, self management skills and behavior.
• Demonstrates the ability to work with students who utilize an AAC device to promote universal  design principles using an experiential approach to learning.
• Experience administering alternative assessments and progress monitoring student learning aligned to New York State alternate assessment standards.
• Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with students to facilitate increased independence by promoting the generalization of skills with decreased adult prompting.
• Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively and actively communicate with administrators, teachers, support staff, and parents.
• Demonstrates the ability to plan, schedule, and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously; including the tasks to be implemented by teaching assistants assigned to the class.
• Demonstrates the ability to design and develop IEPs, safety plans, and update behavior intervention plans in consultation with school clinician.
• Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
• Knowledge of the prompting hierarchy.

Responsibilities include:

• Ensuring that a variety of explicit instruction methods  with all students (e.g. discrete-trial teaching) are utilized.
• Ensuring that student motivational and reinforcement systems are managed.
• Attending CSE meetings and other relevant meetings with parents.
• Collecting, summarizing, and evaluating data on skill acquisition programs and behavior intervention plans, including written reports and visual graphic displays of data.
• Assisting with development, implementation, and review of Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for all assigned students.
• Managing and organizing educational and teaching materials within the classroom environment.
• Managing and working with teaching assistants and aides to meet the academic and daily living skills of students.

Elementary Teachers – Austin Road Elementary School, Fulmar Road Elementary School & Lakeview Elementary School

The successful candidate(s)will:

• Valid NYS certification in Pre-K-6, Childhood Education (Grades 1-6), and/or Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2) is required.
• Experience with Teachers College Reading/Writing Project
• Proven ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and partner with students & parents in the learning process.
• Experience designing student-centered lessons and engaging curricula that individually challenges students and inspires them to grow.
• Thoughtful, reflective practitioner that is culturally responsive in their pedagogical approach with a proven commitment to the principles of equity and inclusion.
• Highly skilled in differentiating instruction to personalize learning to meet the diverse needs of all students.
• Demonstrated understanding of authentic assessment, data-driven instruction, and methods for gathering and evaluating evidence of deeper learning.
• Experience integrating Science or Reading research into K-5 Literacy.

Library Media Specialist – Austin Road Elementary School

• Foster a creative, flexible, and welcoming environment so that the Library Media Center and Library Media Specialist are an essential part of the learning community 
• Collaborate with teachers and students to design and teach engaging inquiry and learning experiences that incorporate multiple literacies, resource-based instructional strategies and foster critical thinking 
• Encourage the use of instructional technology to engage students and to improve student learning 
• Review, revise, and properly maintain the selection, reviewing, acquisition, processing, and maintenance policies of library resources 
• Commit to remaining current in professional practices and developments, information technologies, educational research and personal growth 
• Organize an enrichment reading program for students who would like to participate 
• Collaborate with other district library staff to ensure alignment of information literacy instruction and a cohesive, districtwide library program 
• Promote a love of reading and lifelong learning 
• Manage Library Budget 
• Performs other duties as assigned 
• MUST possess the NYS certification(s) required for the position

The Mahopac Central School District is seeking to fill several permanent substitute positions for the 2025/2026 school year.  Permanent substitutes are assigned to report daily to the same building.   We have openings at all levels. Schools include Austin Road, Fulmar Road and Lakeview Elementary.  Salary is $140 per day.
